Utah Dance Festival is offering a unique opportunity for student filmmakers, dancers, and creators to celebrate and share their work.

UDF Student Film Festival Introduces Film Dance Shorties! 
Bring your love of dance and choreography to the small screen and create a film dance shortie!
What is a Film Dance Shortie?
  • A short dance film! The intention is to promote the use of dance on camera in an approachable way - it can be as short as 10 seconds or as long as 90 seconds.
  • The film may include as much, or as little, camera work and editing techniques as desired. It can be as simple as filming a student-choreographed combo or complex enough to require a storyboard…. creativity is encouraged!

Who is eligible to submit?
  • Utah dance students - any student under the age of 19 is able to submit. Students do not have to be registered to attend UDF to submit, but it is highly encouraged.
  • Dance Shortie submissions are free to students enrolled in the 2025 UDF adjudications or master classes.
    • If submission is not created by a UDF 2025 participant, it will be a $15 application fee
    • Each registered studio can submit 5 videos free of charge. Each additional submission is $5 per video. 
  • All dance styles are welcome, as long as it is in good taste for our entire dance community.

Film Requirements:
  • Films should be between 10-90 seconds long.
  • Concept, costumes, music, and movement style must be community-friendly.
  • At least one portion of the choreography, filming, and/or editing should be done by a student.
  • Video should be submitted in Mp4 or .mov format, or as a link to a third-party site (YouTube, Vimeo, etc.)

​Acknowledgments:
  • The number of films chosen to be screened at the festival will be based on the number of submissions received and the variety of styles presented in the submitted videos.
